I am sure you have heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day…well this statement couldn’t be more true! In order to get our metabolism going, we must fuel our bodies with food; like wood on a fire. The goal is..not to let the fire burn out and to continually provide our bodies with nutritionally dense, whole foods. With this said, offering your body 5 small meals a day is a great way to ensure your internal fire is stoked and your metabolism is continuosly burning calories. I am sure for many of us, this a confusing and foreign concept..when trying to achieve weight loss goals, the last thing you would think is to eat more food?? The key is fuelling the body with the right foods and by doing so not only will you loose weight but you will also have more energy then ever before!!
In this day and age, we all lead very busy lives and grabbing a bagel from Tim Hortons seems like the easiest solution to get that breakfast in. This is far from a nutritious option and when your crunched for time, I strongly recommend at the very least, a breakfast smoothie.
For me, after taking the dogs out for a run, showering, blogging and getting ready for work…there isn’t much time to get that meal in. I like to throw together what every fresh fruits and vegetables I have on hand into a blender, along with some coconut or almond milk, my plant-based protein powder, some chia and hemp seeds, 1/4 cup of raw whole grain oats and voila!! You have a meal in a glass…easy for consumption on the way to work.
I would like to share with you a recipe I came up with, that is not only loaded with nutrition but it’s tastes awesome!!
1 cup Unsweetened Coconut Milk
1 celery stalk
1 handful of kale
1/4 cup vanilla flavoured plant based protein (I use Complete -contact me for more info)
1 tsp chia
1 tsp hemp seeds
1 scoop green superfood powder
1/4 cup oats
3 ice cubs
BLEND AND SERVE:)
