Golden Milk; The Super-Drink, That Is Super Delicious!!

It’s Wednesday afternoon and I am sitting at a rustic little cafe in Collingwood ON.  The sun is peaking through and for winter, the temperature feels comfortable.  I like to take the opportunity when I am in different places to find some inspiration in my surroundings and do some writing.  This last week I have been especially suffering from the winter blues, coupled with circumstantial events that sent me into a funk.  Im slowly climbing back out; I like to think of it as a black hole that I accidentally slipped into. For a few days all you see is black and then slowly the light shines back in and the darkness clears.  I am pretty certain we all go through this, yearly or at least a certain points in our life.  While I was in this darkness, believe it or not there was a drink that I discovered that gave me moments of euphoria and brightness.  It might seem like nothing special, just a handful of common ingredients but the synergy of flavours and medicinal effects, is mind blowing!!  Now, keep in mind that not everyone will have the same experience drinking this magical concoction.  It may take time and it really does depend on your current state of health but over time, it will only create positive change in the body.  Simply put, you will be reducing systemic inflammation (ultimately resulting in decreased risk of disease) and helping the brain produce new stem cells.  Now this is pretty profound health implications from a simple drink but really incredible!!

The foundation of ingredients are turmeric, peppercorns, ginger, raw honey, simmered in a nut milk base.  Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and strong antioxidant power but more recently, research has shown an increase in stem cell production in the brain.  This leads to better cognitive function and a decrease in neurodegenerative diseases (1).  Peppercorns actually increase the bioavailability of turmeric in the blood, giving the body the ability to absorb it.  Ginger also an incredible powerful root, is a anti-inflammatory, anti-viral powerhouse that prevents both acute, chronic and terminal illnesses(2).  With all of these medicinal plants as the core of this delightful warm drink, infused with chia like flavours – Golden Milk has been coined my new goto superdrink, to keep my body healthy and disease free !!

I have outlined the recipe so that you to can enjoy the yummy taste and benefits Golden Milk has to offer 🙂
