Aspartame: Chemical Warfare!!

I was unable to post for Monday, due to some dizziness I was experiencing…now that I am feeling much better I figured better late then never!!

With a spring arrival; sunshine and warming temperatures, it may seem tempting to grab a diet cola or a sugar free sparkling beverage to quench your thirst.  But before you sit down to enjoy your drink on the patio, be informed about the chemicals clouding your drinks: Aspartame.

This toxic sweetener was first discovered by a Chemist, James Schlatter while working for the drug company G.D. Searle & Company.  It was originally to be used as an anti-ulcer, pharmaceutical drug until the chemist discovered it had a sweet taste, which allowed this poison to go from a drug to a food registration with the FDA, which is how we now know it to be.  Ironically, the CEO of Searle, Donald Rumsfeld was the same Donald Rumsfeld that served under George. W. Bush as the former U.S. Secretary of Defence and the influential force behind the push that brought Aspartame to market in 1985

Studies conducted on Aspartame show that intake has been associated with migraine headaches, worsening of seizures in children with epilepsy and an increased risk of brain tumours in animals.  Aspartame contains three chemicals: aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol. Aspartic Acid has a stimulating effect on the nervous system, while Methanol making up 10% of Aspartame…when  absorbed by our intestines, breaks down into formic acid and formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a well known chemical used to preserve bodies in the embalming process but is also a deadly neurotoxin that causes cancer, retinal damage, interferes with DNA replication, not to mention the birth defects it may cause.

So this chemical poison which has been FDA approved and considered safe to use in approxitmaly 5000 products found on store shelves has been masked by many names, such as EqualNutraSweet, and Canderel.  Since consumers have become alerted to how sick it can make you, Aspartame has now changed its name to Amino Sweet as if to pull the wool over our eyes!!  Commonly found in gums, desserts, diet colas, supplements, pharmaceuticals, only a fraction of the multiple products that we take in each day.

So when you have heard that Aspartame is bad for you but you still choose to reach for that “sugar free” gum or soft drink, truly consider what it is that you are putting into your body and the chemical destruction it will have on your health!!  Pay attention to labels and avoid the misleading trade names listed above.
